Collection: Janssens Orangerie Greenhouse
The term "Orangerie," derived from "orange," historically refers to a type of greenhouse or conservatory built in the 17th to 19th centuries in northern Europe. Initially, orangeries were constructed to protect orange and other citrus trees during the winter months. These structures were part of the grounds of fashionable residences as well as royal properties.
Today, the term can still be used to refer to these traditional structures, but it may also be broadly applied to modern greenhouses or conservatories, especially those used for growing citrus fruits or similarly delicate plants in cooler climates.
